Incentivize new home owners to be self-sufficient and diversify the US energy portfolio with more common sense renewable tax credits or subsidies (like oil and gas get now). Allow tax credits for anyone who installs Tesla (or similar) Solar Shingles or panels to their roofs, or who adds a Power Wall or battery house to their property. This lowers the need for energy companies to purchase spot energy from the open market at absurd rates when we are all running our A/C and heat at the same time. It would also reduce the need for energy companies to use rolling brown-outs when energy consumption exceeds generation. It would also guard against energy insecurity in the event of national security threats or weather that could knock out power for large areas these home would have battery backup. It’s a fantastic way to keep people energy independent and reduce energy company’s reliance on spot energy market purchases that costs a ton of money!
