There need to be financial incentives to maintaining good health. Our health care costs are ridiculous and these costs are destroying the middle class, while rewarding bad actors (Pharma, Big Food).
These financial incentives have largely been removed. Even health insurance does not consider your body fat or other existing conditions as this would somehow be discriminating (in a bad way). There is almost no financial penalty to being obese or sick in a self-imposed way in our society.
Financial incentives for staying within a certain BMI, not having to take medications, not being diabetic or pre-diabetic, etc. should be a massive reduction in health insurance costs, but should go much further. How about a reduction in income tax for hitting certain health targets?
We get ore of what we finanially incentivize people to do. So let’s do it on a massive scale.
