Implement JFK’s La Sierra Physical Fitness Program Into Schools Across America

The objective of this policy is to implement a comprehensive physical fitness program based on the principles of the La Sierra High School Physical Fitness Program to promote health, strength, resilience, and discipline among students.

  1. Program Objectives

The program aims to:
• Foster physical fitness, mental resilience, and teamwork.
• Encourage lifelong fitness habits and a healthy lifestyle.
• Develop strength, agility, endurance, and flexibility through progressive training.
• Reinforce a growth mindset and self-discipline.

  1. Program Structure

A. Tiered Fitness Levels
• Implement a tiered system similar to La Sierra’s, with color-coded levels (e.g., White, Red, Blue, Purple, Gold) based on students’ performance, skill, and consistency.
• Each level signifies a specific skill set and fitness milestone, encouraging students to progress at their own pace.

B. Core Fitness Components
• Develop exercises around core fitness aspects such as:
• Strength (e.g., pull-ups, push-ups)
• Agility (e.g., agility ladders, sprints)
• Endurance (e.g., running, jump rope)
• Flexibility (e.g., stretching, yoga)
• Each component should be scalable for all abilities and customizable to accommodate diverse fitness levels.

C. Daily Physical Education Integration
• Integrate a minimum of 30-45 minutes of physical training daily, aligning with current school hours.
• Ensure students are appropriately warmed up and cooled down in each session.

  1. Inclusivity and Adaptability

    • Provide adaptations for students with disabilities, ensuring everyone can participate safely.
    • Allow students to progress based on personal goals and abilities, minimizing pressure while fostering motivation.
    • Emphasize teamwork and cooperation alongside individual achievement, creating a supportive and inclusive environment.

  2. Safety and Supervision

    • Physical education instructors must be trained in the La Sierra method and in modern safety protocols.
    • All equipment must be regularly inspected and meet safety standards.
    • Teachers will conduct regular fitness assessments to track progress while prioritizing each student’s well-being.

  3. Instructor Training and Certification

    • Require all physical education teachers to undergo training in the La Sierra fitness methodology, focusing on the philosophy, techniques, and instructional methods.
    • Encourage instructors to complete certifications in youth fitness and safety.

  4. Parental and Community Involvement

    • Host informational sessions to explain the program to parents and guardians.
    • Encourage community involvement through events like fitness days and tiered-level presentations, building community support for the program.

  5. Assessment and Evaluation

    • Conduct regular evaluations of student fitness levels in a supportive, non-judgmental manner.
    • Use evaluations to inform students’ progression through the color-coded levels, but also as feedback to improve program structure.

The policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it aligns with current physical education research, safety standards, and inclusivity requirements.

I came here to post this same thing. We need La Sierra in some form in the schools generally.
