Immigration Reform - The Will of the People / Elections have Consequences

A programmatic approach to Immigration reform:

  1. Enact a law that abolishes Catch & Release, eliminates any chance for amnesty for people who entered illegally, eliminates any chance for future American citizenship if they entered the country illegally, and harshly penalizes Mexico and Canada economically if they are not securing their American borders.
  2. Secure the Border. Work with Elon Musk and others to leverage state of the art technology to protect our borders. Build a physical wall where appropriate, but also leverage drones, etc to properly secure our border. This should not be difficult to do in this day and age.
  3. Deporting Illegal Immigrants. Focus ICE and Federal Resources like National Guard in states that support mass deportation. This should be determined by each state governor. If a governor wants sanctuary cities and so do their citizens, then don’t deploy federal resources to those states. Also, don’t provide any federal funding to help financially support illegal immigrants in sanctuary states. Let their taxpayers pay to support through higher state taxes. Elections have consequences. If citizens in those states are fed up with higher taxes to support illegal immigrants, are fed up with higher crime rates, are fed up with less money to support their US citizens; then they can either move to a state that aligns with their will or they can vote in a governor that supports their will. We are a republic and the will of the people should be honored and respected. This approach will help prioritize resources in states that support mass deportation, and it minimizes the opposition if you are not forcefully removing illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities that voted for those policies. This helps win the war of public perception and will eventually drive out all illegal immigrants because those states will grow tired of their sanctuary policies and elect new leadership.
