We have a silent crisis in American whereby farmland is being bought by big Ag because the children of the farmers have little to no desire to farm. There are two problems lack of people to carry farms forward and lack of skills for people to farms. Food should be local and there needs to be a process put in place to ensure stores team with local farmers to buy thei goods rather than import food from overseas. Immigration can be used as a tool to link skilled immigrant farmers to take over unwanted farms and pay off their debt by. Providing local jobs for young people and setting up farmers markets in local communities. This accomplishes two things skills for the young to create interest in farming, hopefully organic, a new start for the immigrant and incorporating them into a community thereby creating the melting pot for society. Additional benefit is the starting of small business and good, inexpensive food for families. Local communities can be impacted by providing healthy food thereby improving health and reducing health care costs getting young people interested in land management thereby getting them off of couches and phones and out in nature.
