Idea: Incentivize Parent Involvement for Student Success

More of an idea and a “permission needed from federal level” than a policy…

What if schools, with input from state, district, and local parents, could develop and issue each student’s parents a “report card” based on the self control of the student in class and on his or her learning habits displayed?

And what if positive scores on these “report cards” had annual financial impact because the family could receive extra public assistance (most of which is flow through from federal coffers) or a federal tax exemption as a result, whichever incentive is appropriate for that family?

As a lifelong educator and school or district administrator for 35 years in two states (now retired), I am convinced measures like this could greatly assist hard-working, deeply-caring teachers and schools with obtaining more serious parent involvement … and lead to greater student success over time.
