Identify policies that are effectively the same and link them in your “Merge Proposal.” This will also allow for open dialogue around the suggested merge and enable other people to link additional policies that are also the same in the comments. After review, our moderators will merge the policies. Merging your post with others helps to aggregate votes and create higher visibility for these essential proposals.
Can a person only merge a policy that they themselves created with other like policies? Can one’s policy only be merged with one other like policy at a time not multiple other like policies?
Can a person propose merging two like policies that are not their own if they see overlapping that might unify thought on a subject? Thank you
Any number of policy proposals by any number of authors can technically be merged.
You can suggest that policies be merged that you are the the author of. We are encouraging/enforcing that users tag the author so that they are notified of the merge proposal.
Our moderators will be very careful before merging policy proposals as this is an action that cannot easily be undone. Likely we will allow at least a day to pass before initiating a merge. Also, depending on the nature of the proposal, we may wait longer to ensure that requests are legitimate.
We really need to merge the various nuclear energy policy proposals.
I am not the author of any of them (yet, I’m still cooking one up myself) but many of them are nearly the same, essentially ‘we should do nuclear power for clean energy, it is a great idea and here’s some reasons why’ and there are only a few with actual unique proposals or any great amount of detail.
This sounds like a great idea to submit as a new proposal in Merge Proposals
Trying to merge proposals. Do you see a merge proposal request submitted by @GoUSA? I can’t get merge proposal request to save. I watched the video, but there is no mention of how to save. Even when I click on Create Policy it won’t do anything. I think I’ve lost at 4 attempts to submit a merge proposal request.
Can’t wait to start seeing policies merged. In the economy section for example of the top 20 proposals i think 12 can be merged down into 3. Would really clean up and provide better visibility to other proposals

It is hard to see the screen and how are you getting the links to put in? Sounds easy, but not without a more detailed video. A live example would be great!
The only problem I see is if someone thinks something should merged but does not ho with the policy they merged it with, won’t that make a big mess, or do yall have something in place to change that.
Did watch the video on how to do, if not you need to watch that
try signing out, then sign in. i noticed some of the features are buggy. works for me.
Do moderator contact you asking permission to merge your proposal? Because someone contacted me saying they’re a moderator and asked for permission. I thought merging is done automatically? I might be wrong.
Shane, one of the first things I do every day I log in is read the new posts, and if I believe it is not new, I do a search. Most of the time there are many other posts on that subject. Here are some examples from just today. There are many more. These need merged. I also suggest an addition to the “Post New” button, a screen that forces people to search their topic before they can post a “new” idea.

Thanks for this thoughtful post @ffemt1 — some solutions for this are being actively developed. Stay tuned!
Shane, here is another idea.
Several groups on Facebook send a post to a Moderator for review before allowing it to be posted. I suggest this.
- When a person posts a new idea, it goes to a Moderator for review.
- The Moderator quickly reviews the submission for key words similar to the searches I have shown.
- If known key words are found, they are selected/highlighted by the Moderator, and a button is pushed.
- This button activates a search on that key word, selects the top 3 vote totals cast, and send a note back to the submitter ask them to add their comment and vote to one of them.
- If the submitter does not believe the search results fit the submission they can ask for a review with reasons, and it goes back to the Moderator.
- If it is really a new submission, the Moderator can approve it and it is posted.
Hope you don’t mind the suggestions, it’s a great site.
Thank you so much. This really helps me understand how to do this.
