Once you’ve worked your whole life and you’ve paid off your home, your home should be yours. Exempt from taxation, once the house is paid for. You free yourself from the mortgage company by paying off the house. But, as you get older, you still have to have income to pay the taxes on the house that you’ve already paid for, this is extremely unfair. Most americans, it takes a lifetime to pay a house off.
What does the status of a “paid off” mortgage have to do with property taxes?
Nothing.
Under this proposal, if someone takes a home equity loan on a “paid off” home, they’ll be subject to taxes again.
Property taxes are not inherently wrong, as property owners have an interest in the community where their property is located.
The problem is exorbitant property taxes and the effect they have on seniors and others living on a fixed income.
Property taxes ARE inherently wrong.
Explain why they are wrong.
If someone owns the house and the land, what are they renting from the government?
They’re not renting anything. They’re paying for the cost of services living in a city, county, or state. If you don’t want to pay property taxes, sell your property.
This is misinformation at best, and government propoganda at worst. Here’s why:
If a renter stops paying rent, whst happens? They get kicked out of the place.
If a homeowner stops paying property tax, what happens? They get kicked out of the place.
If property taxes were REALLY about paying for services and not paying rent for the ”priviledge of living on the kings land”, then the homeowners would just lose access to those services they arent paying for. Instead, the government somehow believes it has the
Authority to seize assets and private property.
If china did that to the u.s. , we would go to war. Its no different atthe individual level.
Not to mention the terrible uses of property taxes. government has proven they dont deserve that money, especially after the insane rate hikes after covid.
I thought income and sales taxes covered those services.
