It is my understanding that a law was passed that allows insurance companies to charge what they need to, in order to pay claims. I live in Texas and home insurance is out of control! There is absolutely no reason that insurance companies are raising their rates 250-300%! The whole point of the law was so they would cover high risk areas. However they are not! They are only writing policies in places they make money and pocketing a 250-300% pay increases. All while leaving high risk area people without affordable options. They are making money in super low risk areas hand over fist that would make up for high risk policies. Somebody needs to look at their profit margins. Also it should be illegal for insurance companies to base their rates on someone’s credit. Which is becoming the new normal. They are not providing loans they are providing a damn service. They are praying on the poor with this policy. Another thing is there should be a law that an insurance company can not decide to not renew your policy because you filled a claim. They say they are dropping the policy due to other reasons but that’s a lie! They are dropping the policies because someone filed a claim. Something needs to be done and it needs to be done right now.
