Make a concerted campaign to make healthy behaviors patriotic, responsible and cool. As a former Duke medical professor and practicing cardiologist I believe that not smoking or using drugs, exercising following a healthy diet and maintaining ideal body weight should be the norm. We had a campaign “don’t be a litterbug” and Americans now see littering as bad. We need to reward healthy behaviors and shun unhealthy ones.

I like this idea. Public health campaigns have helped in the past, and I think there is potential here. My worry with our very divided nation is that if it becomes cool for one side, it might be instantly seen as uncool by the other. The campaign might need to use a variety of branding angles to get the majority on board. With that said, I definitely agree that we should at least try.
