Health Insurance Coverage for Functional Medicine and Holistic Health

We propose that health insurance should cover Functional Medicine and Holistic Health services. These approaches address root causes of health issues and focus on overall wellness, not just symptoms. Including them in insurance coverage would make these effective treatments accessible to more people, promoting better health and potentially lowering healthcare costs over time.

Why This Matters

  1. Better Health Outcomes
Personalized Care: Functional Medicine creates personalized treatment plans tailored to each person’s unique health needs, which is especially effective for managing chronic conditions.
Prevention-Focused: Holistic approaches prioritize preventive care, reducing the likelihood of serious health issues down the road.

  2. Cost Savings for All
Early Intervention: Treating underlying health issues early can reduce the need for costly medications and hospital stays.
Reduced Drug Dependency: Holistic methods often reduce the need for prescription drugs, saving money for patients and insurance providers.

  3. Responding to Public Demand
More Choices for Patients: Many people want access to alternative and preventive care that treats the whole person, not just symptoms.
Higher Patient Satisfaction: Coverage for these services means patients have more control over their health, leading to better satisfaction and engagement.

How This Could Work

Adjusting Insurance Plans: Require health insurance to cover visits, treatments, and preventive care offered by licensed Functional Medicine and Holistic Health practitioners.
Ensuring Quality: Only qualified providers who meet high standards should be included in networks, ensuring safe and effective care for patients.

All holistic health should be open to learn like Applied Kinesiology that is a lost art due to doctors, chiropractors and neurology being the only ones allowed to be taught. Dr Thie from Touch for Health knew that the American family could care for itself for the most part and tried his hardest throughout his life to teach as many people as he could. The doctors again voted to make it only available to doctors! We, the women of the world can learn Ak and be as proficient as them and we are committed to our families so we don’t have to charge 85-300 dollars an hour to get treatment in these fields. I practice TFH and we are constantly fighting being able to practice this lost art. Help AK become teachable to all that want to pursue. Let’s make the woman of the house the first line doctor again!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with these recommendations. I have seen numerous people completely reverse chronic conditions by weaning away from years (& even decades) on pharmaceutical drugs, through the use of
alternative protocols, therapies and nutraceuticals. Unfortunately many more were prevented from pursuing these changes because they couldn’t afford them, or weren’t covered by insurance plans… P.S. Medical schools should be mandated to spend substantial amount of time teaching nutrition.
