Americans need to be able to purchase health care across state lines, without government approved life events, opt-in periods, etc. Essentially, FREE MARKET health care.
I’m not talking about single-payer health care. We have that with Medicare and Medicare, like any government-run enterprise is a train wreck. I know. I have Medicare. In 5 years, I still haven’t been able to get a Medicare doctor. Medicare doctor lists are grossly outdated and inaccurate. Medicare employees don’t have to fix the problem: they, in practice, can’t be held accountable…can’t be fired.
For quite a while, it’s been the practice of health care providers, once it’s been identified that an insured has a health issue, to deny they’ve been paid their premiums by either either just keeping the negotiated premium cheques or, at best, sending the cheques back, claiming they’ve never been paid, and, in either case, denying health care.
Then, the formerly insured can’t get health care insurance, with any carrier, until the next opt-in period.
Kaiser did this when my wife broke her hand and went to an emergency room, costing $10,000.00, which Kaiser paid exactly none of.
Blue Shield did this when my wife was prescribed triptan drugs for migraine headaces, at $7.00 per pill.
Speaking with local legislative support, that’s a fairly common way for insurers to remove sick people from their liability…because, leguslative assistants say, most people will just walk away from the problem. It’s likely illegal, at least breach of cobtract, but people won’t sue because it’s cost prohibitive. People can file a Small Claims action up to $1],000.00 BUT the insurer can respond in Superior Court. Then the insured has to get a lawyer at $500.00 / hour. The costs exceed the potential financial recovery.
The work-around presently is INTERNATIONAL HEALTH CARE. It’s expensive but it will cover the insured no matter which state or country they’re in, AND there’s no opt-in period. The insured does have to obtain an intetnational address and claim to be an ex-pat, so then the U.S. Federal Government losses control of the health insurance. Woo-hoo!!!
The side effect of that is the U.S. Citizens’ premium dollars LEAVE THE COUNTRY.
Well, if the U.S. Government doesn’t protect its citizens, the U.S. health insurance industry leaves the country. Another US industry ruined by socialists, communists, “liberals” and politicians.
An argument against this is the potential quality of health care. It’s not a valid argument, since Cigna International, an American health care provder supports such international health care, such that the insured can avail themselves of any health care provider in the Cigna network. They’re likely not the only American provider that supports International Health Insurance.
All ACA (Obama care) is doing, apart from making it possible for state-by-state health care providers to legally scam Americans, is sending American dollars overseas.
One more instance where TRUMP WAS RIGHT!
