Health insurance cost should be lower. Insurance companies should also recognize naturopathic Doctors. Also they should not determine how a doctor prescribes and treats a patient.
Include holistic therapies by non-doctors!
Health insurance should cost less and cover less. It should be for emergency and catastrophic care only. HSA’s should have to be an option so that people can spend their money freely on what care they want.
The dependence on the insurance industry to pay for care beyond emergency and catastrophic care has deteriorated the system and care.
When insurance is put in control of accepting or denying claims it is no longer about the care. It is about the business model of for profit insurance. The most important stakeholder for the insurance industry are investors not patients. The premiums that go to the insurance industry are permitted to be invested in the stock market. It’s one of the only corporations permitted to do so. The goal of the insurance industry is to make money off those investments and in order to do that they must keep as much money as possible invested. That means paying out on claims as little as possible. It is a for profit business. Not a charity or non profit that cares. In addition, they must reduce the risk of losing money on large payouts by denying claims. At some point there are going to be large payouts for conditions such as cancer or disabilities or chronic conditions. Thus they cannot pay for all those other things.
Putting Naturopathic Doctors under insurance will destroy Naturopathic care just like it has done to Chiropractic Physicians.
Agree that insurance should not determine how a doctor prescribes or treats a patient. But how do you propose they determine how they will accept or deny care without making such decisions? That’s the issue. The best way to maintain freedom in the healthcare arena is to created the products that deliver it. Such as the HSA. Something more in line with that product is more beneficial than relying on the current for profit insurance industry.
HMO’s are partly responsible for destroying insurance. Decades ago insurance paid. But then came the PPOs and HMOs into action. The HMO was actually put into legislation under Nixon but did not start being used until much later. Health insurance companies were originally non profit. There were multiple steps which made them for profit. We have to remember that is what they are - for profit businesses.
You are right about making insurance only for emergency. I don’t think insurance should have any say over in how any doctor cares for the patient. We are paying more and more for insurance and finding that they cover less. That needs to stop.
