People seem to propose the notion that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. There also is an immense discussion regarding people who suffer from a debilitating mental state are most lethal in terms of obtaining a firearm. I personally couldn’t agree more. however, we’re still not entirely on board with how to proceed in addressing mental health concerns in regards to how it affects the safety of the general public. so i’ve put together a list of ways that we can keep our children safer while as to not put more guns in the hands of people who never signed up for that. i’ve never purchased a firearm, so i’m not entirely certain on how the whole process works. Full disclosure.
- on top of a background check, i believe that purchasing a firearm should also require a valid driver’s license and up to date medical records. i personally don’t believe that anyone with any form of substance addiction should be allowed to own one. and if you have a DUI, you don’t have a valid license. and any form of addiction or mental illness would be documented in medical records.
- i also think that anyone who will be using their firearms in a recreational manner should be mandated to also have their permits available and easily accessible. no person can legally drive without a license, i don’t understand why a person should be allowed to operate a firearm without proof of legal purchase. because of probable cause, this will also limit the sale of illegal firearms on the black market.
- there will be no ban on any previously purchased firearms, but any dealer should have the right to refuse service to anyone who fails to comply with the above standards.
- i also believe that there should be a free safe included in the purchase of a legally obtained firearm to limit the accessibility of anyone who’s deemed unsafe or dangerous to operate.
let me know what you guys think!!
