Get rid of dual citizenship

Policy Proposal: Elimination of Dual Citizenship in the United States

To strengthen national unity and allegiance, we propose the elimination of dual citizenship for U.S. citizens. This policy will enhance civic responsibility, ensuring that citizens prioritize American interests and values. By requiring full commitment to the U.S., we can improve national security, streamline legal processes, and reduce potential conflicts of interest. This approach fosters a cohesive national identity, promoting a stronger sense of community and accountability among citizens.

This would only be a duplicate policy if dual citizenship is removed from citizenship options.

That being said, we can consider stronger language for those being elected to office.

OH! That’s my bad. I read it assuming it as a limit of government.

I’m not sure I oppose people being dual citizens, although I believe it should prevent them from public service, clearances, etc.

No apology needed. You make people take pause and think!

The number of dual citizens in DC is amazing. They are not elected positions. God help us.

Many countries do not allow for dual citizenship at the Presidential level. However, America has a LARGE number of appointed positions. This is where we can really see the foreign corruption.

This proposal is fundamentally flawed. The government lacks the authority to regulate this issue, as dual and multi-citizenship is arguably protected by the constitution. While your intentions may be well-meaning, this approach would effectively reduce people to a state of subjugation and force businesses to flee the country permanently.

It seems that those in favor of this haven’t fully considered how dual and multi-citizenships enhance individual freedom and economic opportunity.

Take the COVID lockdowns as a recent example of how important mobility and choice can be.

In an increasingly interconnected global economy, where the notion of “global citizens” is gaining traction, dual citizenship is a powerful tool for ensuring individual rights and prosperity.

Everyone should have a second or third citizenship.

You make a good point, and i ultimately agree. Someone mentioned a proposal to keep dual citizenship out of government positions. This makes more sense, and i would go even further to say that maybe it should only apply to select positions. Like higher office and cabinet positions.

I like the initial concept of single citizenships for higher level government, especially the president. It’s very complicated and I’m still working through it.

However, the more I think about it, the more I think it would be detrimental. I havent narrowed it down enough yet to make a coherent statement

Obviously with trump and biden we have seen lots of alleged corruption with family members being involved with global affairs, as well as the two individuals themselves. I’m not sure single citizenship addresses the issues appropriately or thoroughly.

Yes for all elected and appointed federal officials. No for private citizens.
