Good point. The central question is hat educational issues should be considered by lower jurisdictions as opposed to the Feds? Can you think of any educational issues that should be handled by the Feds?
I think that I came up with one…
IMO the Feds may be needed when local issues require a strong Fed authority and/or major funding. Of course having the feds. get involved in divisive political issues is not a good idea!
Well alot of schools are doing a really good job at screwing up our children and making school a place of division, fear, intimidation and confusion. They are also working against the parents! This needs to stop now! We need a different type of dept to reimagine actual education for our youth and future. First of all we need to figure out what is the real truth about our history and what they need going forward to be healthy happy contributing members of our new world.
I vote for SCHOOL CHOICE 110% ! Private schools function with a very small budget and are way more efficient. I want my tax dollars to go to them and send my kids where I want.
You have to lower the size and scope of the government. That’s the answer. Cut spending by half or more, then use that savings to pay off debt—simple economics. The problem is that the progressives, both left and right, have trained the American citizens to be dependent on the government. Americans don’t want to lose their “free” gifts from the government. Because cutting the size and scope of the Government includes cutting entitlements and subsidies, it is going to be an uphill battle.
Once people start losing their freebies, they will begin to vote back the ability to rob the coffers. Remember, our system is a REPRESENTATIVE government. We vote for those who share our current values. Everybody loves Trump because of his promises and voted for him. But when they realize those promises mean earning your own way, they will vote people in to start blocking him.
That’s what local school boards and parent/teacher associations are for. There certainly should be cooperation at the lowest level between schools and parents. Abolishing the DOE won’t do anything to help that.
Does the DOE need improvement? Of course it does. But abolishing it is not the right answer.
Greetings. Such an amazing topic which needs to be acted upon. As a teacher for twenty plus years, I can safely, and without bias, say that the Department of Education has been tasked with all of these things you have suggested- already- and has failed miserably in every way. So, let’s get rid of it and do something else. Parents should be in control with options, choices, chances, and opportunities in leading their child’s learning experience. The Dept. of Ed is there to keep that from happening. Like, literally. We can do better! I know we can at the state level and home level.
