Student loan debt is a major issue for the younger generation. They were promised a dream if they went to school but no direction on what majors will actually translate to paying reliable jobs in the future. I propose eliminating debt an exchange for military services so they can get out from under this major debt burden and learn to appreciate this great country through service and hard work. They will learn tangible skills that will allow them the freedom to find great jobs after they serve. This will not be a hand out they will be forgoing a salary in exchange for their debts being paid, an example would be a year of service = $40k debt repayment. They would not need to worry about housing, food, or living expenses because that would be provided. This would also help with our low recruitment numbers. This would have a better impact on the tax payers as well instead of paying billions just to forgive debt without fixing the issue of useless degrees and young adults without any direction or purpose in their lives.

There’s a reciprocal sense here to the VA educational subsidies.
Paying off student debt after the education using military service has a similarity to paying for education after military service.
I like it.

Current and recently graduated students to receive compensation for student loan debt in return for military service, similar in scope and requirements to ROTC. Offered retroactively to those having NOT participated in ROTC. Qualification based on intelligence, leadership and attitudinal aptitude testing.
