I salute every participant in this forum. I send gratitude to RFK and the staff administering this opportunity for change.
We take action right where we stand. By this means we become agents of remedy, bringing light to a darkened world. It is the light from our heart that heals. And I am offering this.
RFK, for you it has been 19 years that you have held that flame in your center. For many of us we have been right there with you.
The People are tattered and hungry. Hungry for so many things. Food that nourishes and sustains seems so basic. And yet, it is found to be in short supply. The current systems filled with greed and self-service at the top trickle down to the vulnérable their stench of sickness and decay. Let us now start feeding the people, and let there be no more feeding off the people.
Good Sams Food Pantry in SW Colorado supports thousands of people scattered in a hundred mile radius. Here I volunteer and serve as consultant support to the Director. To furnish this community with supplémental food the Pantry relies on donations as well as on récurrent grants. As the economy has plunged we see a substantial uptick of people coming to the Pantry in need. We give food to anyone who needs it. That is our only requirement. What we are encountering is the need growing exponentially while incoming supply is dwindling. This is not a sustainable model. Grants we rely on to function have diverted a good portion of their monetary resources to projects outside the food system all together, i.e., A.I. development and technologies, etc.
We need to overhaul the food security system. At Good Sams we have taken strides toward that end with a community garden, volunteers and members of the local community donating organic produce from their own farms and gardens. Locally produced herbs, eggs and beef have been donated as well as purchased by the Pantry to feed the people. We have created partnerships with farmers in the area. We maintain an inclusive atmosphère with all who support us and with all whom we serve.
All this, and still, we are in shortfall at the Pantry today as I post this note for consideration of policy reform. This need must be addressed by all of us. No American citizen should go hungry. Quality, nutritious food in ample supply can be assured when we work together. See a need.
Fill a need.
It is up to each of us to take into our hands what presents before us as ailment and to be the remedy to what we observe.
The fact that there is such a term as “food security/insecurity” is appalling. The current food system is in need of revamping into a sustainable pillar of society.
Food for the people - by the people across the United States for America.
Help us make that happen, RFK.
Let us be a model for the world, taking our leadersip role in the healing of humanity.
God bless.
