Follow Constitution for Senate Leader

Make the Senate follow the Constitution in reference to the Senate leader. It clearly states that the Vice President is the leader of the Senate. So, the VP is the only one who can set rules, set votes and other policies within the Senate. A “Majority Leader” has zero power over the whole Senate. It’s time to return the Senate to the Constitution and follow It’s directive in this matter.

Great idea to put the Vice President in charge of Senate.

The Senate has a set of rules governing how it operates. Here are some key points about Senate rules:

  1. Order and Procedure: The rules help maintain order during discussions and voting. They outline how debates are conducted, how long senators can speak, and how votes are taken.

  2. Debate: Senators can engage in debate on proposed laws (bills). In most cases, a senator can speak for as long as they want unless a majority of other senators vote to limit the time (this is called “cloture”).

  3. Filibuster: A filibuster occurs when a senator speaks for an extended time to delay or block a vote. This can only be stopped by a cloture vote, which requires 60 votes in favor.

  4. Committees: Much of the work in the Senate is done in committees, where smaller groups of senators review and discuss proposed legislation before it goes to the full Senate. Every bill should be subject to a vote on the floor before the senate is allowed to end their annual session.

  5. Voting: Most votes in the Senate are decided by a simple majority (more than half of the votes), but some matters, like overriding a presidential veto or ending a filibuster, require a larger majority. The VP shall only vote when there is a tie vote of the rest of the senate.

  6. Attendance: the leader should work with the members and ensure a minimum of 2/3 of members are available for every vote. In the event a member misses three votes there shall be an immediate vote to censure. If a member misses five votes or more he shall be considered to have resigned and an immediate expulsion vote be taken for each missed vote as well as be banning from future public office holding and the appropriate state will be notified of the empty seat.

  7. Industry or Lobbyist Bill submission. If a bill is written by industry require a legal review, a mandatory reading and period for amendments amendment and a mandatory 2/3 majority vote to pass it.

Duties of the Senate Leader

The Senate Leader is an important position in the Senate. Here are the main duties of the Leader:

  1. Setting the Agenda: The Leader decides which bills and issues will be discussed and the order voted on in the Senate. They should work to prioritize goals benefitting the nation!

  2. Leading the Senate: The Leader should not represent one political agenda in the Senate, rather helping to unify and guide discussions and votes on important issues.

  3. Negotiating: They often negotiate with the both parties and the House of Representatives to reach agreements on legislation and policies.

  4. Managing Debate: The Leader helps manage the time for debates, deciding who gets to speak and for how long, ensuring discussions stay orderly.

  5. Scheduling Votes: They schedule when votes will take place and work to ensure members are present to support their party’s positions. All bills must be read in their entirety prior to vote unless a recorded unanimous affirmative vote to waive a specific bill reading occurs.

  6. Communicating with the Public: The Majority Leader often communicates on issues to the media and the public, explaining the priorities and decisions.

  7. Supporting Fellow Senators: They assist other senators in drafting legislation and navigating the legislative process.
