As a wife to a veteran & first responder, I know first hand how difficult it is to run a household while your significant other is on duty.
There are school drop off, pick ups, sick kids, Dr appointments, etc that I have had to leave work for because I am the only parent available for 48 hours. Because of this, I had to leave my full time position as I was unable to fulfill the 40 hours needed to remain a full time employee with benefits.
I’d like to propose that employers are required to allow leave time for military and first responder parents to tend to their children while their spouse is on duty. Employers can not count this time as a punishable absence.
It’s time we give the hardworking spouses of those who sacrifice for us a chance to grow in their own careers while carrying the load of a “single” parent.
