As a nation with the right to bear arms and defend ourselves built right into our foundation, gun use, respect and safety should be taught in school at an appropriate age.
Take out the fear, mystery, misuse and rebellion by teaching how to safely use, clean and store a firearm as well as the reality of what can happen when handled disrespectfully - i.e. left loaded on a couch, pointed at your sibling etc.
On the surface it may seem like we’d create more school shooters but knowledge and respect of firearms will empower the people as the well trained militia written in the constitution. But also it’s likely knowledge and experience will reduce unhinged mass shooting more than banning guns and pushing them into the dark.
Guns are banned in the UK and they still have shootings.
I believe that the government should have armed security in every school, paid for by the government to protect our most precious commodity, our children. They are the future of this nation and must be properly protected at all time while in school.
As a person who works in education and has a criminal justice degree, I see the need for this type of federal fund usage being positive and probably overwhelmingly supported by parents and educators.
I agree, and I’d be happy to sit in my pickup in the School parking lot, locked and loaded, since I’m already a Disabled Veteran, and would do it for Coffee and Donuts, and maybe a Sammich for lunch…
But go ask any Veteran, they’ll jump at the opportunity, and will appreciate the chance to have a purpose in life once again…
But you have to make sure they KNOW they aren’t there as School Police, just Armed security in case of a Shooter, some of us ain’t so bright afterall…
We should continue the pro gun theme in our schools by encouraging firearme themed artwork in the art classes as well. Removing the growing stigma of guns is the best way to combat certain attitudes about it. I agree with you completely
I 100% agree with this, and I’m old enough to have taken hunters education in Middle School. Even if you don’t agree with gun rights chances are high that at one point in life you are at least going to encounter a firearm at a friend’s house at the store and if you know how to handle one properly you won’t hurt someone with it by picking it up and handling it, so yes I 100% agree with this. I also believe civics should be taught and kids should be learning about the Bill of Right and the Constitution early on. I wrote a happy Constitution Day song and 1 through 10 of the Bill of Rights and everybody is welcome to use them they’re on my tiktok page you can copy the link or download it or screen record it. Someday I’ll get the Constitution up there but that one’s a little dry to write lyrics with and I did use AI to put the music in it and the singing voices
I believe you can teach firearm safety at the schools even using practice rounds. No need for any real ammo for these demonstrations.
Why isn’t this considered a parent issue? I don’t understand why we should rely on the government to teach our children these things. Parents need to take responsibility for their role.
Many parents have no experience themselves.
so that is where to start.
Schools seem like an opportunity to bring together the gun experienced and the unexperienced and a fairly central place to create a foundation for a social wide culture of gun safety and respect.
Individual parents may or may not have experience or care for the subject. I’m not thinking of relying on the government specifically, but schools are central in our young lives and the exposure is significant.
I understand the fear of schools after watching what has happened with rampant lgptq corruption in increasingly younger ages. But one could look at 2A and consider it part of the governments reponsibility through the constitution.
i agree with is 100% i think we should add in teaching self defense with or without a fire arm and when the right time to your it is with or without firearms
I am on the same page with this, I do not think school should be in charge of teaching about guns, sex, abortions, or any of the other suggestions I have seen in this group. I am however for having an armed police officer or licensed, background checked appropriate guard at the entrances of the school to prevent school shootings. In general having children go through secure doors, and backpacks being checked for security and safety.
The pledge of allegiants, a flag, the constitution on the wall, and our actual history being taught.
YES!! I’ve been saying this for years. My father took me out to the shooting range and had me shoot a pumpkin. After the pumpkin exploded into bits, he said, “That’s what would happen if you shot someone in the head.” I will never forget that. I never played with a gun or allowed those around me to handle a gun carelessly. I own many handguns and am very careful about handling them. If young adults had the opportunity to handle a gun, it would give them a whole new perspective. Taught proper gun safety, most would never accidently shoot someone or take possession of a gun lightly. It should cover gun laws in the state as well. It should be a semester long class, offered to middle school aged kids.
One semester self defense and the next semester gun safety. I totally agree.
Yes, remove the mystery of the forbidden from guns -
BUT -
Get the Federal government out of school curricula.
I agree with you so much on this, at least one point and everyone’s life they’re going to come into contact or view of a gun so why not show them how to handle it safely so they don’t harm someone even if they’re anti-gun.
I think that not just firearms but bows and snares ect. Cleaning an animal properly would also be a great addition to learning in a class like this as we have been so far removed from our food, that some people don’t even know where the meat comes from. We already do disections in highschool biology.
They already make laser based training system for targets and dynamic movie scenarios.
