Federal Voter Ballot Referendums

If congress cannot agree on policy, kick it to the ballot and let the people decide. Issues such as term limits and pay raises should not be determined by those who are taking advantage of the American people.

Referendums should be included on ballots without confusing legal jargon so that the lay person understands exactly what they are voting for or against.

Congress will never limit their terms, too many career people that don’t want to give up the job (because even with lifetime salary they never think they have enough money and they love the power).

Likewise passing bills by Democratic vote can be dangerous (it’s why we don’t directly elect the President and Vice President as the major population centers could dictate the direction of the rest of the country).

In fact, the Constitution gave us a method that allows us to amend the Constitution (which term limits will require) without the involvement of Congress at all (the previous 27 amendments all were passed by Congress, and then sent to the states for ratification) and has the exact safeguards to prevent a revolt.

It’s called a Convention of States or an Article V convention. Under the Constitution, Article V, it states (emphasis mine):

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress

There are a couple of groups that have been pushing for such a Convention, one of which specifically calls for Legislative and Judicial branch term limits in their resolution. As it says, it takes 2/3 of the states to adopt the resolution which allows the convention to meet. That is 34 states, and then once amendments are proposed, it takes 38 to ratify. The aforementioned group, the Convention of States group, already has 19 states that have passed the resolution since they started in 2013, and they’re gearing up to add more as the State Legislatures meet this year.

Therefore we the People need to lobby our state legislatures to pass this resolution, and move forward with Contitutionally cleaning up what DOGE won’t be able to do directly.
