Halt the Fed Student Loan program. Force schools to lend their own money to prospective students. The program has hyperinflated tuition over the past 3 decades and removed accountability from colleges to teach marketable skills. Under the current system colleges receive tuition money and leave kids on the hook with unreasonably high loan debts and poor quality education. If the school was the lender they’d have a direct vested interest in ensuring their students obtain marketable skills and gain employment to pay back load debts. Currently, a student can obtain a worthless degree and the school walks away with tax dollars from loans and couldn’t care less about a student’s employment outcome. Privatizing these loans should also drive down tuition without the influx from FSL cash.
