This really is an absolute must, that way there is no excuse for prime to vote
Maybe roll these two policies together?
As an election worker, on county level. I have wanted this for years. Other countries have it and it is wonderful idea.
In a county where voting for our leading is engrained into our DNA, I cannot believe that this has not already happened.
Fun Fact: the reason that general elections are held in November on the first Tuesday after the first Monday is because by November farmers have completed their harvest. And in the 1800s most people needed to travel over a day to get their polling place. Tuesdays were picked as the earliest, most convenient day of the week. As Sunday was for going to church and Wednesday was Market Day.
But, think about that, most people had to travel for day to vote. And they did that because they knew how important it was to go and vote.
The vast majority of us can and should vote on election day at our polling place. I think there valid reason someone would need to vote outside of election day.
Such as my circumstance. I am an election worker at a county level, directly under our Election Commissioner. I also do not live in county that I work. For Federal elections I have to vote by absentee. I do not like it but that is my only option to vote. The importance of my role on election day does not allow me the flexibility to vote on election day.
We also need mechanisms in place for our snow bird community, people living in health care facilities, etc.
There are valid reasons that the absentee voting process exists. However the vast majority of people who utilize that option could vote at the polls.
I believe that making Federal Election Day every two years a federal holiday is great way to encourage people to go polls. And a great start for states to tighten up their absentee voting laws and finding ways to regulate those process exclusively for those need it. Like me.
Paper ballots, require voter id, and counts done prior to end of day.
Excellent idea but must be a legal registered voter with ID.
I just can’t understand why this hasn’t been a thing since all citizens could vote.
This not only will help with the ability to vote, but it may help to reduce corruption if mail in ballots are reserved for a small, vetted population.
Good Idea!!!
I’m down for a day off!
All federal holidays should be compensated double time by social security or state unemployment insurance if you have to work also.
we have too many federal holidays already.
I could support moving election day the day after tax day though.
This!
Yes! This is an amazing idea!
100%!! That will help people get there that day. There needs to always be a big push though for voting early every year.
Good idea,
Many people are working that day to operate the elections thought.
I have no problem with them getting double pay since they are doing public service.
But only for those who actually vote.
One day, one vote and use your thumb print for identification.
Remove an unimportant holiday. I feel that’s pretty easy.
The idea sounds good if you work a job that closes on all the holdays. Where i work for a large chain store people would lost their mind if we closed for that. I believe pushback from customers is why we no longer close or close early on some. I know we have a policy that allows people to leave to go vote if your shift is during voting hours
Single day voting paper ballots hand counted with along with this federal holiday.
