It is a little known fact that many States have a State Defense Forces under the State department of military affairs. These volenteers support the National Guard and are often retired military or people who cannot serve due to medical or family situations.
The District of Columbia National Guard is the only one that served the Federal Government , since the States are Sovereign.
It would be possible, as a hedge against future manpower shortages that a Federal Defense Force staffed by veterans and volunteers could be organized .
We lose a lot of otherwise qualified individuals due to things like flat feet, blood suger and the like, that though you wouldn’t want them.in your Special Forces, could help out in support roles and security roles. I who many police officers who fall into this catagory.
We have never faces as many potential enemy with such vast reserves of manpower and ability to reach into our homeland. We need some creative thinking.
