End Vaccine Mandates for Green Card Applicants

I want to bring attention to an issue that many American citizens may not be aware of, but one that affects thousands of families, including mine.

For 20 years, my husband played bass as a touring musician. He is a UK citizen and, for moral and religious reasons, chose not to take the COVID-19 vaccine. As a result of his “vaccine status,” he was prevented from entering countries where the band toured like France, Germany, and, of course, the United States. Prior to this, he toured America for 15 years, performing in nearly every state.

After 20 years of commitment, he was let go. He was left without a career, without support, and without compensation. Our bills didn’t stop when the work did and our savings were drained. We still have not financially recovered from this hit.

I’m not writing to focus on this injustice, however, it is the catalyst for this policy change.

In 2016, my husband, Billy, and I met while he was touring the States, and in 2020, we got married. I moved to the UK to be with him because of his then touring schedule, which is now no longer relevant. Since our circumstances have changed and we recently welcomed our first child, we have had serious discussions about relocating to the U.S.

However, once again, these unjust mandates are standing in our way. While many believe that vaccine mandates are no longer an issue, for some, they very much are.

The COVID-19 vaccine is shockingly still on the list of required vaccines for the green card medical exam. It’s appalling that my husband could be refused the right to live with his wife and son in America simply because he won’t take a vaccine that he has moral and religious objections to—one that denying already cost him his career.

What is truly baffling is that Billy could now travel to America to visit, but if wants to reside there with his family, he would be forced to take this injection. Moreover, our son would also be required to receive vaccines, which we are not on with. This is wrong.

For years my husband has contributed to the American economy and now simply wants to live with his family in America without the fear of being denied and forced to live apart. It’s not right to have to choose between a vaccine and a green card.

I’m not sure what can be done regarding this issue. At the very least, I hope this post brings attention to the issue and someone in power can initiate a change.
