End property taxes!

Property taxes are a local issue, not sure if the Federal government has the power to inact this. I love the idea but it will need to be investigated.

I agree with this people shouldn’t have to pay property taxes especially if it’s bought and paid for by that person. You will never feel free because if property taxes are not abolished than in reality you will never be free. You will always be a slave to the government.

This is a great idea; however I propose an amendment to this.
People should be able to list their primary home as tax exempt.
Any additional homes, (vacation, Airbnb, rental locations, etc),
Should not be eligible for tax exemption.
Furthermore, offsets for the home land tax exemption, should be taken up by all remaining taxable land, with an increase to dormant, unused, undeveloped land, to deter people from purchasing land to keep as a future asset.
(Example: rotting decaying commercial properties in the rust belt.)
This would encourage people to sell land rather than to hold on to it.
It would enable faster development.
Local governments should also have the responsibility of purchasing unused land from individuals that wish to sell it to get out of the tax burden but can’t, at 50% under market value, (consensual eminent domain.)
The land could then be rezoned and redistributed to the market, at market minimum as needed with what’s desired.
That should cover federal financing, as well as produce profit for the local governments.

Commercial and luxury land, should not, and cannot be tax-exempt.
Condos, high rises, and apartment buildings, anything that exists within a H.O.A., should not be eligible for tax exemption.

state & local residency is prerequisite to Primary home exemption. Thus voting rights, etc.

Foreign nationals, illegal/legal un-naturalize immigrants (Visa holders) should never be allowed to own any tax exempt land. (If you wanna be here, then be here, all in, no dual citizenship)
On the contrary, they should be subject to increased luxury, comercial, and dormant land taxes.
If they choose to have offshore hedge investments, fine, but their going to pay for it. (Your roads and services will be well funded, they will foot the bill, allow them to.)

Agree :100:. It’s nothing but fraud and unconstitutional.

Okay, so how do you propose those people pay for the government services they also use? Are you advocating for higher income or sales taxes to offset that obligation?

Except property taxes occur on the local level, not federal.

At least end property tax once a mortgage is paid in full, and for properties that are a primary residence. Taxes could still be collected for secondary/vacation homes, or for investment properties which generate income for the owner.

I don’t think we’re trying to get rid of the cookies… Just the cookie monsters that we never willingly offered the cookies to.

I agree with this. I paid off my home and property insurance is so expensive in South Florida which is like having a mortgage again.

It should be optional, pay up front about 8 years, the locality can invest the money, should be able to work economically. For people who move frequently because of work it has to be an option. Renters are already paying enough rent to cover the taxes paid by the landlord, the repairs and maintenance as well as a small profit.

Yes we have lost our property rights and I want them back! 100K thumbs up!

Been saying this for a long time; we already own next to nothing. Taxes allow gov’t. ownership; don’t pay and they seize your property. But there will have to be some form of revenue gathering method to afford local and state resources, such as in the event of a disaster, infrastructure, and so on. Some states (TN) have high sales tax, but no state income tax. This would have to be ironed out before property tax could be eliminated.

To that end, it would be more representative to the people to dissolve the states, and elevate every county in the country to a new micro-state. less government, more direct local representation
Expanded House & Senate, the courts would have to be expanded and districts would need to be redrawn.
No more City and municipal Police and kangaroo courts. Elected Micro-State Sheriffs and Elected Micro-State Judges.
Also the Micro-States would be free of overreaching legislation from other Micro-States,
example: up state New York would be free from the financial Tyranny of New York City. The rural areas would be more equally represented in Congress.

Cool.:sunglasses:

That is a different issue, most of the time there are taxes on registration for your plates, not the car itself.
The registration fees can be determined by the value of your vehicle, but that is an erroneous approach to a fair share.
It should be proportional wear and tear that you put on the road I.E. the weight of the vehicle.
And don’t even get me started on toll roads every road should look as well maintained as a toll road for the amount of taxes extorted from the people.

There should be no property tax once your home is paid off.

There are other ways, such as a non comercial tax exemption, and increased sales tax (I would avoid sin taxes)

If we were less wasteful, every state could
Support a primary home residence tax exemption, as well as no income tax (state or federal) and no taxes on food items.
Imagine the only taxes you pay are sales tax on non-food item & services, and vehicle registration.

As we get older some of us are now paying property tax that is closing in on more than 50% of what we paid for the property to begin with. I’d also like to see HOAs outlawed as they are out of control and steeling from residents.

This is cool, but I would add that only a citizen is recognized to have these rights.
Illegals, foreign nationals, and businesses (to include but not limited to an individual who has several rental properties) utilizing land for the purposes of profit within commerce, should not be included.

Furthermore the exempt status should be applicable to one and only one homestead, vacation homes (or rose by any other name) should not be included.
Land bought and kept as hedges or assets and not developed into a primary homestead, should not be included.
To that effect you must be the soul owner of the land. Condos, apartments, H.O.A. should not be included (mow your own lawn, and mind your own business.)
Your highrise condo association is subject to land taxation, expect it to reflect on you condo fees.

Schools should be funded by sales taxes. Property taxes are an assault on property rights. Failure to pay property taxes on property you own can result in the government assailing your property. The state lotteries and sales taxes should be more than enough to fund schools.

Agreed. We don’t have to continue to pay taxes on other things we own outright, aside from registration fees.
