End property taxes!

I definitely agree!

Once you Finish Paying off your Homes, Property Taxes should be done too. Bring Back Ownership in America!!!

Taxes imposed on your residence year after year should be abolished. Mortgages have nothing to do with any reason to tax. A fair tax if needed can be imposed at the time of sale and paid over time as an option. Deeds on property need to be titled to the owner of the property and not as Tenants in Common (look up how you took title to your property), as they are not tenants of their property, rather owners of the purchased land.

super great points you make!!! It’s absolutely the easiest way to ELIMINATE money laundering and the need for any enforcements and complicated accounting on private citizens!!! So many hours of our short time could be spent in endevours more productive than filing taxes. Lots of simplifications also coming for businesses. So much today is wasted nowadays in expense deductions tracking, scanning receipts, it is so crazy!!!

Property taxes are the payment for our services in our local area. I think they shouldn’t be determined on the based on the price our home. I think there should be a more regulated way of how much we pay a year.

Example being we pay for how much land or the square footage of our home instead of the assessed value. My homes value was inflated but that doesn’t mean I use more resources because of it.

Property tax should be a one time payment, if any at all. Having to pay property tax on something paid off is insane, nothing is ever truly yours and you never truly own anything. Even on vehicles is crazy.

YES!! Why the heck do I need to pay taxes on what I own . Its ridiculous. We pay Income tax, sales tax, and then again tax on what we own ???!!

Absolutely! Especially if the homeowner owes the home outright!

But why does EVERY state require it? Surely it’s something the federal government can control?

Absolutely yes on this. Some taxes in certain area’s are more than the friggin’ mortgage! That’s just insane. Counties and towns need to learn to spend within limits, spend smartly and stop sticking us for more on property we own.

We can’t even get most states to end property taxes for 100% disabled Veterans. Which obviously shouldn’t be their decision to begin with.

I think it should be a federal law to own your land when the mortgage has been paid off.

I agree! Especially since most of our property taxes fund public schools and their administrators. We should not have to fund that with all that waste and propaganda going on

Property taxes essentially make us SERFS as you do not actually own the property. Don’t pay the tax= they take your property. It allows municipalities to continually grow their useless ā€œservicesā€ and benefits and pensions for all the added employees they tack onto their admins. They rarely fire anyone, even locally. The behemoth that is local government is downstream from the UN agendas-- which is why the local municipality laws and zoning are soooo lengthy and incomprehensible. I also think there should be NO property tax for anyone over 60-- they have paid enuf already! And, since up to 2/3 of property tax is allotted to local schools-- school VOUCHERS are a must!

This needs to remain a state issue. Also, what is your proposal to replace the income that the states and municipalities need? Of course you want everything for free but that isn’t the real world.

There is no Federal property tax. Property taxes are paid locally. Those property taxes pay for schools, fire departments, police, roads, etc.

The problem with property taxes is in the enforcement mechanism… the local government can seize property in a tax sale. This means that we never truly own property and that eventually property must be sold if the owner can no longer pay.

A solution could be that a local government would revise their tax structure such that properties that are owned free and clear would no longer be subject to property taxes. Property that is mortgaged or leveraged would still be taxed. This would incentivize true ownership. After paying a 30 year mortgage, someone would not be at risk to losing their home. A family farm would remain in the family without having to be sold off to satisfy taxes.

The local government would need to balance their loss of income with fiscally responsible spending and an increased tax rate on mortgaged properties, or possibly a sales tax.

In practice, wealthy individuals and companies would still likely choose to borrow against their property so that they can take advantage of their equity to invest in new assets… those properties would be taxed. But a landlord who owns property free and clear could lower their rent because they no longer have to pay property tax.

At the federal level we could do something that says all taxes must be transactional. Which forbids asset taxes like property, saving and unrealized gains. Local governments would have to figure out how to pay for roads, schools, fire, police, etc using sales, use or income taxes but in reality these local and state governments will have to go on a diet. All government has gotten bloated.

I would like to see this in the form that one person each can claim a primary residence that property tax does not apply. Corporations, business or people who own multiple properties outside of a primary residence should still apply.
