Whatever the DoJ spends to prosecute a case should be afforded through federal funds to the defendant to defend himself. This will eliminate the forcing of defendants to plead guilty regardless of guilt or face bankruptcy. There is a reason the DoJ has such a high win rate and it isn’t because that same percentage of the folks they prosecute are guilty. The Federal Government can simply stretch the legal proceedings out to the point they leave the defendant in financial ruin regardless of guilt.
