Eliminate Health Insurance Companies

Health insurance is a scam. It is not representative of a free market system. Insurance companies control what doctors are allowed to charge for services and drugs. Most people pay more into insurance than they would ever spend on actual medical bills. At the very least health insurance companies should be non-profit so that healthy Americans premiums are going towards keeping the rest of the country healthy, not lining the pockets of CEOs, board members, big pharma, big food and all the other evils that control and manipulate the health and livelihood of our middle and working classes.

I would modify this. Eliminate HMOs and Obamacare. Go back to 80/20 with people being able to select from any carriers in the country. The problem today is the insurance companies consolidate too much and it gives them too much power. We can’t have the government involved in health care decisions or like England and Canada they will have the power to decide you are not worth saving.

I am pretty much here with eliminating. I do believe since many employers pay this for employees it is why we are here with astronomical costs of premiums for all.

Since majority of Americans want insurance coverage and want their employer to provide $ for it, there would need to be some sort of bridge to ensure employers don’t just drop health insurance coverage and then not compensate employees properly for what they weee previously paying for, so that the employee would have similar purchasing power to buy health care services on their own.

I think there would also need to be some sort of coverage at federal level for catastrophic type illness such as cancer & rare diseases that are expensive to cover ( end stage kidney disease, transplants etc. )

I agree with decoupling insurance from employment. Your employer should have nothing to do with your insurance company selection (which indirectly affects which medical professionals and services will be available to you).

  • Your relationships with medical providers you know should not be at risk simply due to a change of employer (if the new employer uses a different brand or policy).
  • Your employer should not be penalized or prevented from compensating you more if you choose to foregore company-provided insurance.
