Disentangling DC

One of the best ways to achieve efficiency in the Federal Government is to move most or all of the executive departments away from Washinton DC. There is no good reason in 2024 for them to be in one location. The District could be returned to Maryland and Virginia and the place turned into a national park. Congress and the White House will make excellent museums! Plus, no more corrupt DC city government, and no more threats of making DC a state!

The White House could be wherever the POTUS sleeps most of the time. A simple rule change would allow Congress to meet, debate and vote using Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. And they could remain near the constituents they supposedly represent.

Moving them would accomplish at least two other objectives: getting federal employees away from the toxic political scene; and boost the economies at the new locations. It might even reduce the number of federal employees if they don’t want to move (maybe they could become park rangers).

Most of the departments could be located just about anywhere, while some are just naturals for specific places.

ENERGY belongs in Texas, with Oklahoma and Louisiana as close seconds. Or Alaska!

AGRICULTURE would fit anywhere in the Midwest.

INTERIOR is a natural for a western state with lots of federal lands and reservations.

TRANSPORTATION looks good in Texas, next to the Tesla plant in Austin, but we could give it (grudgingly) to Detroit.

EDUCATION and a couple others can go in the garbage bin.

The rest we can have fun arguing about, with the caveat that all sanctuary cities/states are automatically disqualified from consideration.

We could even throw in a requirement that the departments have to move every ten or twenty years, just to keep the bureaucrats from getting too comfortable.

What fun!!!
