After being in the credit repair industry for 8 years, it has come to my attention that Americans do not understand how credit is evaluated. FICO has been the standard model, however, there are multiple versions of FICO and Americans are not given transparency of the details of how their credit is evaluated. I propose a mandate that requires all lenders to use the same score model for credit applications. I further propose that the data used to calculate a citizen’s credit score be made available so that there is no mystery any longer. This information is vital to every citizen and should not be a secret. I further propose that this information be required curriculum in all high schools so that young adults can have a sense of confidence and take charge of their financial future.
