We must rate books like we do movies. Our school libraries are filled with books that are not age appropriate. Sexually explicit language, cursing, pornographic cartoons and details about online dating, to name a few, are available to minor students without parental permission.
Graphic novels seem to be the biggest offenders at the elementary and middle school libraries.
I believe a policy like this would remove these inappropriate books from school libraries and school curriculums.
I thought this too, is a book is considered rated r then it should not be in schools. Its somewhat common sense. In a regular library i personally think it should be to the discretion of parent.
Agreed! Public libraries would be able to house r rated books, schools would have to abide to book standards similar to those they set for showing movies in class.
