County Jails must have addiction services

I have made it out of the life of drugs. I was on heroin and meth for 15 years. People think that addicts shouldn’t be arrested. However, that is not the case. When people are in addiction they rarely stop without an outside force stopping them. I firmly believe God got me arrested. He worked thru the officers that saved my life. Fayette County Jail has an amazing program called the Hope Center Jail Program. While incarcerated you can join a 4-month program. It is in a different pod where your surrounded by people also trying to get better. Addicts need to be locked up for charges like possession before they get too far gone. The purpose of the program is to plant the seed in your mind that life can be better. Most jails all inmates can do is sit around watch tv and come up with ways to get drugs in past the guards or just talk about drugs and crime all the time. It is a cesspool. County Jails need to at least have an opportunity for inmates to join a program IN the jail. When they are sent to rehab, they immediately run. Because of programs like the hope center jail program I have went from a junkie on the streets to a man. I now have a great job, my own place, a car, a wife, a new daughter and i have completed almost 70% of my BS in Cybersecurity and information assurance. This programs don’t always work. However, at least it gives them a chance before they commit a serious crime and ruin their lives or worse kill themselves or others.
