The United States would benefit greatly from adopting the metric system, which is already used by nearly every other country in the world. The metric system’s simplicity, based on powers of ten, makes it easier to understand, convert, and teach compared to the complex conversions in the Imperial system. Adopting metric units would enhance international trade, science, and engineering by eliminating costly unit conversions and misunderstandings, thereby streamlining communication and collaboration globally. Moreover, a single system of measurement could simplify education and reduce errors in industries like medicine and manufacturing, fostering a more integrated approach with global standards.
They tried in the 70’s and it was a major failure. We have more pressing issues
That was because it was a voluntary committee. If we were able to just make it mandatory then we could do some change for the better. But you are right there are more pressing issue at hand and this should be something to do at a later date.
I was one of the students who slept through “The Adventures of Metric Man” movies. I doubt it would be much different now.
Wrong. It was headed for success and then reagan, et. al, blocked it.
It is LONG past time to do this.
Actually, it was NOT voluntary. Carter had this geared up for America to switch when there was 200M ppl in America. Now, we are over 335M and it will be more expensive to switch. BUT, ALL of the population has had SOME or major amounts of metric training. NOW is the time to switch as opposed to waiting.
almost everything in the USA is metric with the exception of construction trades.
What about the roads and schools? Two of the most important I would think
who cares what unit the roads are in, it really doesn’t matter.
