I think Congress should have term limits. On top of that and most of all, Congress should not be able to vote for their own pay raises or get life payments after serving.
Let’s face it, nobody can vote for their own pay raises except Congress! Here’s how I see it.
Each member of Congress is a representative of the State they are from. I believe that each State should set their expectations for their Representative(s) and start them off with a basic pay that match what each State deemed fair. The Citizens of their State should vote if the Representative(s) get a pay raise. If the Representative(s) are not doing their job of voicing what the Citizens of their State want, they do not get a pay raise. It’s just that simple. Too many Representative(s) are not following or listening to what their State wants or needs.
As far as lifetime pay once they do a term, NO! The United States was not set up to have career politicians. They were meant to be everyday citizens that take time out of their life to serve their fellow citizens from their State and after their term in office, return to their regular life (business, work, etc).
Congress, by the Constitution, cannot pass any bills/laws they they are exempt from. Unfortunately, that has happened. I believe there should be something passed that reinforces the Constitution to prevent them from doing this.
