Begin with allowing students at LEAST a 45 minute lunch break. Connect schools with local farms who will provide fresh produce, dairy, eggs, and meat. Provide food that is minimally processed, and does not contain artifical dyes, flavors, etc. Food that is tasty and enjoyable as well as nutritious. Do not allow things such as pop tarts, honeybuns, etc for breakfast. Instead provide things such as REAL fresh eggs, wholesome bakery items, fresh fruit and yogurt, bacon or sausage (turkey perhaps?) prepared on location every day.

Oh this is so important! The school lunches are TERRIBLE! We were stationed in Italy for our kids first few years and they went from 4 course lunches with fresh fruit and vegetables, roasted meats and homemade pastas etc to frozen burgers, hot dogs pizza, deep fried chicken, deep fried mozarella sticks and junk like pop tarts and debbies snacks. Unreal! Any fruit and veggies are soggy and overcooked and clearly out of a can. Inedible. School lunch isnt an option so we have been making their lunches. Not to mention the school then has the audacity to send home flyers for ME to read on good nutrition! LOL!
