All doctors/hosp/dentists etc. should be required to list prices for common procedures. Allow consumers to “shop around” not only based on providers, but what the out of pocket would be. Make the market more competitive and bring costs down! This can also be done to show an estimated out of pocket based on ins coverage. IMs companies can then get more competitive. A better effort needs to be made to educate people on health care costs. Also mandate charity care not only based on income, but catastrophic injuries as well. So if a family of four suddenly has a loss of income for several weeks they could also be eligible for some type of discount/charity. Make all providers follow Medicare allowable rates for any self pay patients. Regardless of why they do not have coverage or if they choose to not use coverage.
