Change the food stamp welfare program to limit the purchases to locally farmed produce and animal products.
Right now people can purchase fast food and highly processed foods. Changing the policy will help with American obesity/health problems and will help boost US farms productivity allowing them to produce more healthy food products. This will be much cheaper for the American tax payer as well due to the lower cost of locally ground food compared to fast food and processed foods. There would be mental health benefits for lower income houses because eating well has been liked to less depression. American helping Americans become healthier and wealthier sounds like a great policy to me.
@Mat,
I agree with the idea of shifting the food stamp program to focus on U.S.-grown healthy food products, as it would support local farmers and promote healthier diets. An improvement would be to also provide educational resources on how to prepare and store fresh foods to ensure recipients can make the most of these products. Additionally, offering incentives for purchasing locally grown produce at farmers’ markets or community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs could further support both farmers and consumers, making the program even more impactful.
This entire program needs restructuring. There should be short term max payout benefits and lifetime max payout benefits with some exceptions (seriously disabled) This program was meant to keep people from starving but instead it’s buying Coca Cola, Doritos and Little Debbies… which inturn is harming the health of low income Americans.
Additionally, this program should only benefit American citizens… not even those non citizens lawfully and legally residing in our country, much less illegal persons entering America.
