A bill to support family caretakers who can no longer work because they are caring for a family member (senior, disabled child, etc). The costs of caring for someone are astronomical. So, many of us become the caretakers, but we can’t also work to support ourselves and our families. It’s a Catch22 hell.
Tax credits don’t work for us – because we can’t work. The path forward is to pay home caretakers, though Medicare/Medicaid, just as if they were a facility being paid for caretaking services.
Let’s find a way to help those who care for our most vulnerable.
In England, the primary carer of someone is paid by the government. A friend of mine was paid a very good salary to be her husband’s career for nearly fifteen years while he suffered with an incurable lung disease and slowly died from it. This allowed her to be with him, take him to medical care appts, get his therapy done, and even take him to a special choir where he sang to make his lungs work better in the middle years of his illness. It was a good salary, too. Not a minimum salary.
For those individuals, I suggest the median income for each state, UNTAXED, and it should come with SNAP automatically. That way, if the patient needs special food or protein shakes or whatever, they’re not out of financial reach.
