Bring cursive writing back to common core education

Cursive hand writing must be brought back to the common core education. Without the ability to write, the children also do not know how to read the handwritten words by human beings. They resort to read all the typed up words from internet as truth and it can be dangerous in the current world. In addition, not knowing how to write cursive has caused many children to struggle to take notes, write even a birthday card, let alone an essay in school. Children must be trained how to write as reading and writing are the fundamentals that would drive their logical thinking as well.

I agree with this more than most of the things I read on here. People need to be able to read the constitution.

It might be better to remove Common Core entirely. It was originally drafted to compliment a basic curriculum, not be the only curriculum. This program is the main reason our kids get passed along without an understanding of basic academics.

While i appreciate cursive and the value it has for our society, i think this is a state issue, or perhaps one that should be decided by individual schools. I don’t think the federal government should dictate to the classroom.

This is a state issue and should not be a federal issue

Or, we just, you know, abolish common core and get the feds out of education period, that alone will solve a bunch of issues

I was taught to write in cursive, and found no use for it in my 60 years. I can write in block letters just as fast, and most peoples block lettering is universally readable. Cursive is very often interpretive art.

Let the stars decide what is taught, not the feds….

I dont see the harm in all children learning cursive. Cursive has been proven to help those with dyslexia. Both the children that I home school are dyslexic and I’m grateful that the Abeka academy teaches cursive in their curriculum. Their grades have significantly improved since being removed from public school.

I have written exclusively in block letters for many decades. Then, out of curiosity, I tried writing in cursive again. It was an interesting experiment as I felt both sides of my brain firing up (the artistic creative side and the logical side). You might also find this experiment interesting.

I also feel this is a state issue. I believe the federal government should be made smaller and more things need to be brought down to state and local levels. When you don’t agree with the policies you have the ability to move to an area that governs with policies you do agree with.

One thing to add is to help students create a signature because I only a few years ago created a signature that wasn’t just generic cursive and it definitely wasn’t taught to me in grade school lol. Anyways 100% behind this

Why do you think they took it out of school? For the very reason of the next generation not being able to read the constitution and what their rights are. Make sense now?

Agree! It is kind of interesting that our cursive writing style is like a version of our fingerprint. Uniquely ours. Yet, we’ve completely dismissed it as not important or not worth investing in.

Common Core is what removed Cursive writing!

Cursive Writing? YES

This sounds like a job for… Capitalism! Let’s school choose their curriculum, let parents choose their school, and let kids compete, and voila, a world class education.

I don’t disagree with you, but it took me all of a few sittings to teach my kids cursive. This is something parents can easily pick up the slack on while better solutions are put in place.
