Bring back Catastrophic Health Plans

I believe it was Obama that struck down catastrophic health insurance plans because they were not giving the insurance companies huge amounts of money.
We need to bring catastrophic plans back and make them available to everyone that does not have any acute illnesses.
Do not government fund healthcare, keep costs transparent and have insurance companies compete. Do away with the market place as it is a rip off. Create separate affordable plans for those with preexisting illne⁴sses.

You are missing the reasoning behind that change. The only way to financially make a system that worked for everyone was to have everyone - healthy and not - in the same pool. The ACA was a compromise solution, and we all hope for something better someday, but this wasn’t about how much insurance companies make off of the different plans. The market place was life-changing for those of us who have spent most of our lives in the private market. Getting rid of pre-existing conditions clauses and offering subsidies based on income made it possible for more people to obtain insurance and gave us enormous peace of mind. We all pay for the care of the uninsured because they end up being treated in the hospital setting. That cost is passed along to the rest of us. So, with or without the ACA, we will all be contributing in some manner. The ACA just makes it clearer in what ways we as a nation share the costs amongst us.

Leigh, with all due respect, why should the healthy be penalized with footing the the bill for those that aren’t? Our government would have enough money to help people like you if it wasn’t misusing our tax payer dollars.
We need a full on shake up of government and 3 letter entities. Prime reason why I am in full support of the team Trump has put together.
Obama and Biden were the most divisive presidents in history and did nothing but hurt everyone’s mental health, financial health and physical health.

I think healthcare is different than many other programs. Everyone has the potential to get sick or injured at any point. We are all one car accident away from possible life-long debilitating conditions. And of course, we all have greater odds of getting many illnesses as we move through adulthood. I don’t think of it as penalizing the healthy, but rather insuring that we all get quality care, no matter what health conditions we were born with or picked up along the way. And to be clear. I am one of the lucky ones. So far, I have had a lifetime of good health. But, I know plenty of people who have not. They were born with serious conditions or ended up diagnosed with autoimmune diseases or cancers as they aged. I have two close friends who had cancer during childhood. Even though I would benefit from a system that charges me less because I haven’t needed to use much healthcare, that just doesn’t sit right with me.

Leigh, we agree in that healthcare is different. However, I stand by my views when it comes to higher costs for the healthy because of the sick.
Now, I do feel there are other things we can do to insure lower costs for all. 1) is transparency 2) is eliminating fraud 3) continue taxes maybe even increase them for medicare and Medicaid and expand to those services to those that are unhealthy, but eliminate other taxes that do not make sense 4) allow affordable private catastrophic only insurance for the healthy 5) create a financial health statement for those programs that will ne delivered electronically to the citizens of the US quarterly for transparency purposes and accountability

Yes, those are good ideas. We will definitely need to approach this issue from a lot of directions to improve our system. It is complicated, but I believe we are a resourceful nation and can create a system that works well for everyone.

Catastrophic healthcare plan + DPC doctor is a good combination for many
