🛑 Blocking Telemarketing SPAM Calls

:warning: SPAM calls to Phones are completely out of control with AI. :warning:

You hear an AI voice at times and then a human is there.

They are using Local Numbers, and Real Company Names on the Caller ID.

There is NO WAY the phone companies cannot detect these FAKE numbers, calling thousands of people.

:bangbang: We need a LAW that Really has Severe Legal Consequences for using Fraudulent Numbers, and False Caller ID information. :bangbang:

No excuses, or it will never stop. :stop_sign:

:white_check_mark: Please leave your comments, so this is taken seriously. Explain, how it is affecting you, and what should be done. :white_check_mark:

I work within the industry, and can tell you that there is already a mandate on the books for caller ID verification/authentication (search STIRR/SHAKEN) - and that rule is now in effect for all US telecom companies.

The problem is that most of these bad actors are outside the US, and thus beyond the reach of the FCC. For that reason, the policies in place that enable STIRR/SHAKEN also look at the “gateways” - the service provider where Internationally originated calls enter the US, and the FCC has actually been able to shut down some of the worst of those gateways, disconnecting them from the US telephone network.

There are more gateways (and because they have to register to get a “key” for STIRR/SHAKEN they aren’t just popping up overnight like the bad actors do) that continue to be a challenge - the biggest issue right now is the FCC lacks the resources (personnel) to investigate, and the DOJ, can’t do anything unless the FCC refers the case to them.

So work is being done, but we haven’t won the battle yet.

And don’t get me started on the scam text messages, which seem to be the new means - I had one last evening with somebody trying to be my friend claiming they knew me, trying to get more information from me (they got my region, but that was about all they got, not even my full name). until I shut them down after identifying they were in China but using a California phone number.

I own a company in this industry and I feel the FCC is overly aggressive, especially towards 3rd party lead gen. It’s an overreach, the current TCPA laws are enough.

Please enact this!
As an individual, I get nonstop spam or spoofed calls, so that I no longer answer my phone.
As a business owner, where we have to answer our phone, we get stalkers and spam callers spoofing other people’s numbers and we get calls from people saying we called them (although we did not), so apparently someone is spoofing our number.
What if competing businesses are doing this to make us look bad?
There needs to be some punishment for this, until they can stop the spoofed numbers.

The promotional Cold Call has long been an accepted tool in a business setting. Unfortunately, the practice of cold-calling individuals at-home has ballooned. It’s a legal gray area, but there must be some way to curtail this unethical practice. One reason I’ve kept a landline at home is as a receptacle for spam calls, which go right to voicemail.

This is exactly what I am describing with Spam Calls to my personal cell phone, and my business land lines.

We have to answer the Business Calls, which interrupts us constantly.

Many of them are AI generated calls.

We need a way to stop this with huge legal consequences. :stop_sign:

Thank you for your explanation. Helps to know something is being done. They’re doing this on social media too, like Nextdoor. I get messages from total strangers and I just ignore them.

I feel for you. I cannot answer my own phone without becoming infuriated. This has to stop.

Its very disturbing when your caller ID says its from a hospital and most of your family isn"t home. Only to find out its someone trying to sell you solar panels… Needless to say I was more than upset. I am alrwady 9n the Do -Not - Call list which is a joke because it never worked from day one… Something real needs to be done…

Yes, I’m right there with you! I own a small business and must answer local area code calls in case it’s someone calling looking for services (My fiance does carpentry and lawn work, and I restore antiques.). A vast majority of the time, it is a robocall and a complete waste of my time. Sometimes, there’s no one on the other end, which I have never understood the purpose of that. I get 50+ robocalls a day, which eats into my time to accomplish actual work for my business. Ridiculous, infuriating and should be ILLEGAL!

Yes, I have the same type of calls daily and are from local phone numbers, and they are not local.
There has to be a way for the phone company to see hundreds or thousands of calls coming through with local numbers that are not local.
