Bibles in schools

** :latin_cross:**. A Christian nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all. As a Christian, I believe it to be imperative for us to return to fear and love our Heavenly Father. Everyone knows about the Lord, but many do not go out of their way to gain the knowledge or interpret it properly. The Bible is the word of God and a map for life. Even if you are not Christian, it is one of the most important books to read and understand. It contains history, metaphors, parables, stories, poetry, life lessons, prophesies…
The Bible enables discernment and can help lead children to understand the beauty of life, even in God’s wrath. In a world with unrelenting sin, the Bible gives hope and understanding in our Lord and Savior.
Again, even if you do not believe, the Holy Bible can teach you a lot about yourself and others. Even in the metaphors and stories alone, there are a lot of good English lessons to teach and understand. It is our duty as believers to spread the Gospel and expand the kingdom of heaven.
Thank you; may God bless our nation and protect us from the wicked.

So long as government has a hand in the education system, then the separation of church and state needs to be honored. There should be no issue in having religious texts available for checkout from the school library, but I don’t believe we should incorporate them into curriculum.

The Bible is perhaps the most comprehensive textbook available to humanity, encompassing a rich tapestry of history, poetry, and diverse literary styles that offer profound insights into the human experience. Its teachings provide moral guidance, foster critical thinking, and promote an understanding of cultural and historical contexts that have shaped civilizations. By studying Scripture, our children can cultivate a deeper appreciation for literature, ethics, and history, while also gaining valuable life lessons that encourage empathy, resilience, and a sense of community. Embracing the study of the Bible can equip future generations with the wisdom and values necessary to navigate the complexities of life.

The separation of Church and State doesn’t exist anywhere in the Constitution. It was only in the Federalist papers, Thomas Jefferson writing to the Danbury Baptist Church.

Separation of church and state simply means no state sponsored religion. This country was built upon Christian values and beliefs without Christianity ever being sponsored as a state religion. Nobody is suggesting we start that now. Using the Bible as a learning tool, a book full of history and wisdom mind you, does not implicate the state as sponsoring Christianity. It simply means teaching valuable life lessons that never fade through time. It is the world’s most historical, and historically accurate, document. It deserves a place in education.

Separation of church and state. Religion is not allowed into public schools to protect the religion. The history of why this was implemented explains why this is so important. Furthermore, religion in schools is cool WHEN IT IS YOUR RELIGION. If that door opens, it gives the same RIGHTS to other religions like Thelema. Give the money to parents so Muslim kids can go to Muslim schools, Christian to Christian, etc.

Only having a Bible would exclude other religions (Jewish, Muslim, etc) and although I wouldn’t see a problem initially you then are open to those who would want religions like Satanism also included. So although not opposed to idea, could be a slippery slope.

I disagree with ANY religious text being taught in AHY k-12 class. If one religious text is taught then ALL have the right to be taught and this is ridiculous. Teaching religious texts is teaching non factual based information. Until the existence of a deity is proven completely religious texts should be forbidden in school curriculum.

I agree with everything you said but I believe we must return Jesus to our schools! Our children need hope in this world and peace and safety. We used to have a meeting every Friday in our schools. We had a priest one week or a minister the next but whatever church the message was always uplifting and energizing. It made my life complete. How. can it hurt a child to learn the Ten Comnandments! These are our laws. Do not steal, kill or lie etc. we need limitations and direction beside education and 30 minutes or an hour a week helped our schools. If we bar Jesus from our schools we bar love.
We never had any shootings at our schools then!
No Child Left Behind is a disaster and core education.m is no better. The new math doesn’t work. 1+1 must equal2! We need to get back to basics and cursive writing should be restored. Our children are not being educated. They are being housed or babysat during the day. I’ve had 10th graders that cannot write a sentence or add. This is unforgivable.
Teachers have so many papers to fill out, lesson plans to be submitted and meetings to attend while the children go uneducated. Let the teacher do what she wanted to do reach her class and educate. It’s like the doctor who can’t give the shot because he can’t touch the patient. The teacher has limited time but all the state wants are tests results. Are the results accurate? I don’t think they are because the mark must be met so it gets fudged.
Children are not educated because classes are filled with special needs kids and the brighter kids are neglected. There is only so much one human being can do. Let the teachers teach and go back to reality. A dream world is still a dream and lies are still lies. Children are not being taught in most schools. There is no respect for the teacher and the child doesn’t want to learn. Without respect classrooms are just disorder. That’s why it comes back to being taught honor, humility, ethics, what is right and what is wrong. Children need Jesus. They need God. They need the Ten Commandments. Then they can learn. Without order there is only chaos. Without love there is only hate. Without order there is only disorder and nobody learns. Have you ever tried to teach a child that has no respect for a teacher and doesn’t believe in doing what is lawful? That’s before you open a book as a teacher to give of yourself to make this child a better person by educating him only in math when he needs to know respect. The Bible teaches that the beginning of wisdom is the Fear of God. I believe we must let God back into our school systems or shut them down. All children. need to grow intellectually, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually!

Thankyou for your courage to post this Alena…

Kids need to at very least understand what a Christian believes to foster unity and empathy. And to do this, curriculum plays a huge part. I feel the love of God is not felt or understood, by non-Christians, perhaps also by Christians.

My own recent return to faith centers around the profound love of “God” for every soul on this planet.

Curriculum Integration:

  • Narrative Learning: Use stories like the musical “Oliver!” (1968) to illustrate themes of love, sacrifice, and redemption. For those who haven’t seen the movie, key scenes like:
    • Oliver! - I’d Do Anything (song of Nancy committing to love and protection for the orphan Oliver) and Nancy’s Death (when saving Oliver) can be shown. These scenes depict God’s love through characters like Oliver, who despite his status as an orphan, is loved and protected, and Nancy, whose ultimate sacrifice reflects divine love and bravery.
  • Interactive Discussion:
    • Do you feel the Love Nancy showed to the orphan Oliver?
    • Would you have had the courage to protect Oliver?
    • If Nancy had of known with certainty she would be killed, do you believe she would have died to save Oliver?
  • Reflection on Divine Love:
    • Contemplate on the love of God and Jesus willingly sacrificing himself on the cross to help saves millions of souls. Think about and explain this love and sacrifice.
    • Did Jesus earnt the right to be Judge of all souls and how will people be judged?
    • Discuss the importance of the two commandments, love God with all your heart, mind, and soul - reflecting God’s love for us. Treat others as you would like to be treated - an extension of love. Explain how these commandments encapsulate love? When someone close to us protects and loves us, is it not normal for us to show love back to and be grateful.
    • Map Jesus two commandments back to the 10 Commandments handed down by Moses. The 10th Commandment is interpreted by many to be about controlling your thoughts and in so doing holding true the other commandments. Explain the type of thoughts that come about through an unhealthy desire of jealousy.

Spiritual Practices in Education:

  • Prayer in Schools:
    • Prayer can provide spiritual strength, potentially reducing suicide rates and bullying. Teaching prayer aligns with courses like Alpha, which could be part of Christian education or offered as an elective for spiritual exploration.
  • Alpha Course Integration:
    • Alpha’s introductory course to Christianity could be woven into the curriculum for Christian schools or as an optional program for students interested in exploring faith.

This approach uses storytelling, critical thinking, and spiritual practices to illustrate Christian values in a manner that is engaging, thought-provoking, and inclusive, aiming to connect students with the essence of Christian love and community.
