Specific Proposal:
Require any health or diet recommendations from Government Funded/Affiliated Agencies or Universities, and the curriculum in all medical schools, to be publicly compared to the related policies and behaviors in a basket of relatively healthy countries, and any deviations justified based on clearly demonstrated health improvements.
Discussion:
For example, the policy (or lack thereof) regulating what is allowed as an additive in wine could be compared to what is allowed in Italy and Spain, and anything not allowed in those countries prohibited in the US as well unless a clearly demonstrated health improvement exists for the additive. The types of wheat grown in Europe are also associated with better health outcomes as discussed by Dr. William Davis and others. These and thousands ands of other examples exist, however the point is to create a higher standard of excellence and learn from other cultures that are performing far better than the US on the health front.
This creates the challenges of what is “clearly demonstrated” however this proposal assumes that other policies will be put into place that minimize the level of predatory/corrupt science which hopefully will create a better base of evidence and logic
Target Outcomes:
Make food products and health decisions that are in compliance with healthy cultures
Transition food production to healthy approaches
Reduce the US-centric policy view and establish cultural health goals consistent with the world’s healthiest populations
