I spend about 10 mins at the laundromat wiping out the residual detergent and softeners from the dispensers before I can use the machine. If I don’t, my laundry stinks from the chemical scents and hurt my sinuses, People are so ignorant about the harm of scented products. I think their scent detector cells must be damaged.

Totally agree they should be banned. Imagine the children wearing the parents toxic chosen scent 24/7 on their skin, being absorbed through their skin, being breathed in and absorbed in their lungs, and going directly into their brain through their nose? What health affects can this cause? It can cause the developing fetus life long chronic issues, it can cause migraines, asthma, respiratory issues, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and the list goes on and on. There are so many people who have adverse reactions to these chemically scented products. These products are triggers for asthma populations, COPD populations, people with Autism populations, chemically intolerant populations, CFS populations, Fibromyalgia populations, migraine sufferers, ADHD and many others especially those who don’t understand their symptoms are a result of exposure to these chemicals. I’m thinking if skulls and bones had been put on these products as a warning, more people would understand how harmful they are to the human body and not use them. There are many great scientific research articles proving the harm they cause. These companies are a self regulated industry who tests their own products for safety!!! Safety is cast aside for the greed of profits!!! Fragrance is the new second hand smoke!!! We need to stop exposing others to these toxic chemicals.

Scent and fragrance are not one in the same.
The EPA regualtion on “fragrance” is lacking. Over 4000 chemicals can be disguised under this term and protected by “trade secrets”. Also there are fragrance allergens in products without scent. A prime example is benzisothiazolinone. This chemical is found in many laundry detergents and one that I personally react to. There is no scent but if its in the clothing and gets on my skin i have skin and respiratory reactions.
Public places should not be allowed to use items containing fragrance and if fragrance is removed from other products the pulic places would be more assessible to all. Multiple Chemical Sensitivity is an ADA recognized disability for which accomodations should be made but this isnt enforced like handicap parking and accessibility.

I would go further than banning just the carcinogens, neurotoxins and EDCs in these products. Air Fresheners in general should be banned and sued, because it is False Advertising as they do not freshen the air but rather pollute it. They should be banned from Public Spaces and most definitely banned in Medical Care Facilities. Fragranced laundry products, body care, and cleaning should also be Banned in Medical Facilities. Many Hospitals have Fragrance-Free Policies for staff, but it is not enforced therefore useless. Hospital Certification programs like JCAHO should include Indoor Air Quality Metrics.
