Ban the Use of Palm Oil as a food ingredient

The use of Palm Oil as a food ingredient is becoming more prevalent. It is used as it is cheaper than corn syrup or other sweeteners. Palm oil is a new addition to the western diet and instances of severe allergic reactions to this ingredient are on the rise. Additionally, Palm oil is not domestically produced and has impacts on pollution due to transoceanic transportation and the need for slash and burn agriculture to create the palm plantations.

I don’t like palm oil much but it’s not the worst offender. Look at other seed oils first.

Love this chart. Imo all seed oils are horrible and lead to many health issues.

Could not agree more that banning seed oils is vitally important. However, Palm oil is still dangerous and not normal , or needed in the western diet. I had a severe anaphylactic reaction to palm oil that nearly killed me and put me in the hospital. After working with my doctor found Palm oil was the culprit. With palm oil being used in more and more products I have to be extremely careful. It could be argued that this is an issue unique to me and policy should not be based on a single or even a handful of cases. However, as I have dealt with this issue over the past 10 years, I have found more and more people across the country with the same issue. Anecdotal to be sure, but compelling and worthy of serious study. Additionally, the minor economics benefits to Big Food, are not worth the health risk to the public.

Not only that, but scientific research has found that the fatty acids found in palm oil has been linked to the spread of cancers. I would go as far and say stay away from the seed oils.
