For far too long medical insurance companies have been able to override the decisions of a patient and their Dr about what treatment is or isn’t best for the health and welfare of the PATIENT. A federal ban on insurance companies having a decision about what treatment will be covered should be made illegal.
Medical insurance companies will be forced to cover procedures, aftercare, prescriptions, and travel expenses without being able to negotiate prices or treatment options. This ban should also include all elective surgeries as well (excluding gender reassignment surgeries).
Annon,
Please see my post that I put in yesterday titled " Increase the number of Private Practice Physicians, Restore Provider Autonomy, Decrease Regulations". I also have an executive order and a detaled plan on how to do this. I agree with your post completely!
Thank you,

Insurance companies should not be allowed to determine what tests are medically necessary to have. So many people are denied proper care because the insurance feels a test is not medically necessary to have. they want you to try a cheaper test. for example, your doctor orders a cat scan, many insurance will not approve it unless you have done bloodwork, an ultrasound and they want proof. then they get to deny the test saying “we do not feel this is medically necessary”, by them looking at 1 doctor note. We are paying high premiums we should be able to do whatever tests our doctors order . its the same with medications. many will not cover the more expensive medications that actually work until you try 2 or 3 generic meds that do not work.
We NEED this! Ive gone a month before without my medication because it was denied and waiting for a priorauth. Insurance kept saying no.
Another med for migraines ive been on for 15 years theyve now denied and i pay full price for because they wouldnt except.
Just had ovary removed and was put on hormones, ins company denied what the Dr wanted me on (the strength). Im so sick of ins companies deciding what i need. They are not my doctor…
I don’t appreciate that people can’t get the medication they need because it’s so expensive here and it has so many restrictions. My father’s doctor recommended him to be on certain medications to assist in fighting his cancer, but the insurance company said no and it was $20,000 a bottle. But if you go over the boarder it was affordable. I am sure this is the case for many.
Get insurance companies out of healthcare. Insurance companies put profit before healthcare and account for at least 30% of healthcare costs. It is a for profit model, we need a non-profit model for healthcare. Insurance claim decisions should be made based on medical necessesity and safety, not for profit. I have a neighbor that had to drive a long distance for an MRI so the insurance company could save money instead of having it done locally. Insurance company policies make healthcare a nightmare, having to fight them for re-embursement. It shouldn’t be this way.
