Ban lab grown meats!

Lab grown meat should be banned everywhere keep it natural . There’s no reason there should be additives in meat anyway.

Yes and also ban BHT, BHA, and TBHQ which lower testosterone, cause organ damage, and are potentially carcinogenic. BHA can be found in some sausage products.

In some states this is already done. Such as Florida.
I do agree that lab grown meat should be banned from all states.

I am 72, a former cattle ranch manager (25 years), who grew up an Iowa farm boy, and I now reside in Texas. I believe controlled, intensive grazing of ruminants can be the savior of the planet…from a climate perspective…even if I’m not sold on the “climate change” agenda. Not only can ranchers stock greater numbers of livestock, they will also quickly rebuild nutrient depleted soil and literally pull tons of CO2 from the atmosphere to sequester carbon into the soil. This is the same process by which the deep, fertile soils of the Great Plains were built by the constantly moving, massive herds of buffalo. This is simply another version of regenerative farming using livestock to improve fertility rather than chemical means. But most farmers/ranchers are unaware of this concept. I believe actual training is required and should be made available perhaps through Land Grant Colleges and via the Extension Service. And, while we’re at it, lets get those same colleges out from under the thumb of “Big Agriculture!”

We need to go back to natural food production of our grandparents and great-grandparents. Regenerative agriculture, heirloom seeds, etc…

The entire Big Ag complex of GMO, toxic chemicals, destruction of soil, excessive antibiotics etc… disastrous to people’s health.

Yes, naturally raised foods will be more expensive. So what. People are consuming too many empty calories anyway. Lower volumes of high quality food at higher prices will transform this country. Look at the photos of people from the 70’s. Everyone was thin and healthy!

Totally agree with your statement. This would solve a multitude of issues. There is hope for this as Joel Salatin is being brought in as an advisor.

I don’t know if it’s possible but I’ve prayed for a way to bring back
“Small Town America.” Growing up as an Iowa farm boy in a small, yet vibrant town, I am saddened that Main Street is virtually abandoned in my town as well as many others. I would like to see diversified farming return…where farmers raise and rotate grain and forage crops, run a beef cow herd, raise some hogs and chickens, plant a garden, etc. But, perhaps, that would be too much work for those who have plowed up their pastures and are content to “monocrop” their entire acreage, utilize pesticides and herbicides, and rely on government subsidies. And driving their big tractors as they dodge around giant eyesores that are the electrical-generating windmills covering the formerly pristine countryside. If the regulations were lessened and “direct farm to consumer marketing” of wholesome food was allowed, it might be a start to revitalizing small towns…and improve health outcomes simultaneously! Perhaps this is a pipe dream in this modern age but I still hold out hope!

it is possible. We have to end all the federal subsidies for soy and corn, break up big ag monopolies, ban the use of petro-chemical farming, and generally remove all the law and regulation built by lobbyists which creates structural advantage for big ag toxic farming practices. Corporate farms should be fined for pollution of the water ways from excessive shedding of antibiotics from feed lots etc… make them pay for the environmental destruction they cause, and remove barriers from family farms… create a level playing field and soon family farms can thrive again.

Cell cultivation for lab grown meat is done using:

  • glucose to feed the cells (glucose is what corn feed and hay turn into in animals blood stream).
  • amino acids (same as are naturally occurring in animals)
  • salts (naturally ingested by animals as part of their diet)
  • serum which is a protein rich fluid that allows the cells to grow and attach to each other

Lab grown meat contains:

  • no antibiotics because there is no animal to get sick/diseased
  • no growth hormones to expedite animal growth because there is no animal that needs to mature

Lab grown meats (in the future when they can be produced at scale) will lower the cost of meat, eliminate animal cruelty, will be better for the environment, will be more efficient as no ‘energy’ is wasted growing bones, skin etc.
The lab grown meat industry is incredibly misunderstood and is falsely villainized by the mass farming industry because it is a threat to their profitability. This topic is worth a deep dive to understand it better and who is opposing it.

agree

Lab grown “meat” just perpetuates the trend of low quality substitutes for real food. Arguments like “immortalized cells aren’t the same as cancer because XYZ” or “there’s the same ratio of macro nutrients as natural meat” miss the forest through the trees. Yes, if we limit the scope of the discussion to molecular biology technicalities there’s a degree of truth – but we miss the big picture.

Why is petro chemical accelerated produce lower nutritional quality than that grown with organic, regenerative practices? Soil depletion… lab grown “meat” is likely to have the same or worse low nutritional quality as cows force fed GMO corn at feed lots. Cows that are 100% pasture raised have something like 5x the vitamin and mineral density of industrially raised cattle, and those nutrients have better bio absorption than taking supplements.

Food scientists are playing God and vastly oversimplifying what humans need for true vitality.

Totally agree! We should be eating real meat that has the nutrients our bodies need( probably why they don’t want you eating real meat in the first place).

In an age where we need to make our food SAFER (as in Europe), this should not even be an option. RFK has plenty of info on how this makes us WEAK and SICK. Please Ban lab grown meats PERIOD!.
