This bill aims to stop members of Congress from using inside information to make personal financial gains. It’s simple—if regular citizens would face criminal charges for insider trading, our elected officials should be held to the same standard, if not a higher one. Politicians are here to serve the people, not profit off information the rest of us don’t have access to.
I propose the following:
• It will be illegal for members of Congress, their spouses, immediate family members, or close friends to trade stocks or financial assets based on inside knowledge they gain through their work.
• Any violations will result in strict penalties, including fines, forfeiture of profits, removal from office, and potential jail time.
• Every quarter, independent checks will be done on members’ financial dealings, and the results will be shared with the public.
In terms of how this should be implemented, I propose the following:
• A non-partisan ethics board will oversee the audits and ensure compliance, regularly issuing public reports to build trust.
